The Gateway tier responds to data received, sending notifications to operators and managers with appropriate calls to action.

Its functionality includes:

• Rule Manager – to validate data values against a set of user-configurable rules and assign them a severity level
• Business-focused Alerting – to create rules based on the business area or application process being affected without specifying who should be alerted at the time the rule is created
• User Assignment – to let managers and team leaders assign issues to a particular member of staff for a resolution, and to send an alert to that user
• Knowledge Base – to hold documented solutions to fixed problems for best practice sharing
• Compute Engine– to calculate aggregated values and pass them back to:
  • Selected Gateways for distribution to the visualisation layer and logging to the database
  • The Rules Engine for event generation if they exceed user-defined thresholds, or
  • Other Compute Engines for use in further calculations

• Database Logging – to allow user-specified sampled metrics and events to be logged to a Geneos-supported SQL database for capacity planning, historical reporting and trend analysis
• Express Reports– to convert reporting from the Geneos database into parameter-driven pre-set templates:
  • Fault Analysis Reports for insight into the faults over a defined time interval, grouped by business area
  • Trend Analysis Reports for changes in the values of monitored metrics over time
