The instrumentation tier monitors defined systems and applications and transmits data when their defined parameters change
The Geneos instrumentation tier is made up of software agents known as NetProbes.
The NetProbes extract and publish the current values of set parameters for particular systems and applications using one or more plug-ins, which may be pre-built or customised using a developer’s toolkit. NetProbes typically sit on all monitored system nodes and can also monitor remotely.
NetProbes and plug-ins can either execute actions automatically, or be set manually by users. They make available the metrics collected from the underlying systems and applications to the second Gateways tier in real time but only send data when the current value of a parameter changes. This way the network is not flooded with monitoring traffic.
Geneos can monitor the integrity of the Geneos run-time environment itself – as well as everything in the infrastructure – to ensure the latest version of the plug-in is running.
