ITRS Technology Strategy

An update on the ITRS Group technology strategy

When considering the ITRS Technology strategy, there are two key two parts to think in terms of – what are we doing with our technology/software to improve it, and what are we seeing in the technologies our software needs to monitor.

Strategic change to ITRS Group products

About 18 months ago, we laid out some key technology themes in our software. Principal amongst those were the following:

APIs first. We will continue to publish public APIs to allow developers and software to control our software directly which using the UI and human keyed input. We will also allow software to get data back from our software without extracting to files or other static data source.

Cloud & Elastic Environment friendly. We will continue to make our software ready to run in the cloud, whether that is images which are available in the cloud like Amazon’s AMIs, or VMs or Containers which can be loaded into the cloud to run.

Refreshed UI and Architecture. We have brought through in Geneos 5.0 a new WebConsole and big data storage engine in Gateway Hub. We will continue to build out this new architecture to allow highly scalable monitoring which can capture the high data volumes generated by elastic environments.

The changing technology which ITRS must monitor

The other half of this blog is about the technology that we need to be able to monitor, capture data from and analyse. The list is similar to the changes we have made to our own technology, and includes:

Cloud software platforms

ITRS now have data collection from the cloud platforms themselves like Amazon’s CloudWatch or Google’s StackDriver as well as the software our clients are running in the cloud.

Dynamics environments

ITRS have produced a new data collector called Orchestrated NetProbe which is designed to work with the new platforms like Kubernetes, OpenShift or Pivotal’s CloudFoundry

Integrations

We have focussed on the integrations that we need between our products, and the integrations with the other products that our clients are often using in their production tools landscape. These include the IT Service Management products like BMC Remedy or ServiceNow, the inside-the-app monitoring tools like Dynatrace or AppDynamics, or the cloud platforms like Amazon’s CloudWatch or Google’s
